(SUSPENSION) SOLUTIONS FOR MOTORHOMES

A motorhome is the ultimate means of transport for those who want to take their own road and have the freedom to keep driving or stop when and where they want. When the weather gods are smiling and you’re heading off on that well-earned trip away, you don’t want any anxiety about comfort and safety when driving your motorhome.

You want to be able to benefit not only from maximum ride comfort during your journey, but also the highest levels of safety. Your holiday should start relaxed – that’s why a house on wheels that handles perfectly is a must.

We also offer a fitting service for the VB airsuspension solutions.

ENJOYMENT AND COMFORT WHETHER DRIVING…

While driving, your motorhome will constantly remain at the ride height pre-set during installation. This is the ideal ride height for maximum comfort. The driveability and stability of the vehicle are also improved, which in turn increases safety. Our full air suspension systems come with a sophisticated remote control, placing all the functions of the suspension system within easy reach. Depending on the type of air suspension system, you can automatically adjust the height of the motorhome on the front and/or rear axle. This is particularly useful when driving on and off a ferry or when driving on rough terrain.

OR A STANDSTILL…

When your motorhome is at a standstill and the ignition is switched off, there are various options available for adjusting the height of your motorhome manually or automatically using the remote control, depending on the type of air suspension system fitted. This makes entering and exiting the vehicle easier, as well as loading and unloading luggage via the load space at the rear of the motorhome.

HIGHLY VERSATILE SOLUTION FOR YOUR CHASSIS

If you find that your camp site is on a slope, you can level your motorhome at the touch of a button. You can also adjust the motorhome so that it leans to one side, allowing for the drainage of sewage and wastewater tanks.

FULL AIR SUSPENSION
SEMI AIR SUSPENSION
HELPER AND REINFORCED SPRINGS

Full air suspension is an automatic or adjustable solution to a (suspension) problem where the existing leaf or coil spring suspension is replaced by a full air suspension system. This system includes air springs, shock absorbers, height sensors, a compressor and an electronic control unit (VB-ASCU) and, depending on the make and model of vehicle, is available for both the front and rear axle. The air suspension system filters out unevenness in the road surface, improving ride comfort.

While driving, the vehicle will constantly remain at the ride height set by VB-Airsuspension during installation. The standard ride height is determined during the development of the air suspension and is fixed.

The ride height is the ideal height for comfort and stability. The driveability and stability of the vehicle are improved, which in turn increases safety. The access/loading platform height can be raised and lowered when the vehicle is at a standstill (in some cases with the handbrake on), allowing for easy vehicle entry/exit and for loading/unloading goods.

A FULL AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM IS OFTEN FITTED TO MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS. IT:

  • Increases the ride height
  • Minimises sagging
  • Reduces vehicle roll
  • Improves suspension comfort
  • Improves driving characteristics
  • Increases safety
  • Improves stability
  • Control options

Semi air suspension enables the suspension to be adjusted manually within certain limits. On a vehicle with leaf springs, an air spring is fitted between the chassis and the rear axle that supports the leaf spring of the vehicle. VB-SemiAir is supplied as a two-chamber system.

This means that the air springs are not connected to each other. Using a two-chamber system allows left and right to be adjusted separately, enabling the vehicle to be levelled – to some extent – even when it is loaded unevenly.

BENEFITS OF SEMI AIR SUSPENSION

  • Higher ride height and increased spring travel
  • Improved stability
  • Reduced off-centre level
  • Variable spring force
  • Good value for money
  • ‘Plug-and-play’ system allows for quick installation
  • The body, equipment and load remain protected against vibration/impact
  • Heavy loads are no longer noticeable from the outside
  • Less strain on the shock absorbers

Helper and reinforced springs are suspension systems that support or reinforce the existing suspension system in order to correct a suspension problem. Our helper and reinforced springs – also called the VB-CoilSpring – are either fitted to the existing leaf suspension/coil spring suspension or they replace the original coil spring suspension. A helper spring or replacement spring is used on vehicles that already have coil spring suspension. Helper springs are fitted on vehicles with leaf suspension. Reinforced springs will normally ensure that the vehicle returns to its original or a higher ride height,

which increases spring travel and thus improves stability and, to some extent, comfort levels.

VB-CoilSprings are a good option for vehicles that are always (heavily) laden and that have to carry variable loads every once in a while. This is because the reinforcement to the spring force is permanent and cannot be adjusted. The two systems are available for both the front and rear axle.

BENEFITS OF VB-COILSPRING:

  • Supplied as a complete kit
  • Less sagging
  • Improved comfort
  • Increased stability
  • Stronger suspension
  • Less crosswind sensitivity
